Scanning Barcodes in the Web App

Scanner Requirements

Before you begin scanning, ensure your barcode scanner:

  • Is connected to your computer either directly or wirelessly and operates in HID (Human Interface Device) mode. Most scanners use HID mode by default.

  • Is configured to send an Enter (Carriage Return) after each scan. This option can typically be enabled by scanning a configuration barcode in the scanner’s user manual.

Scanning Items

If you have scanner connected to you computer you can use it to scan Item and Serial/Lot number barcodes within transactions.

When you are ready to add items to your transaction, place your cursor in the Scan Barcode field and use your barcode scanner to scan the barcode. 

When creating or editing sales or purchase transactions, if you scan an item for the first time, a new item line will be added to the transaction. Each subsequent scan of the same item will increase the quantity.

If you scan barcodes while picking or receiving a transaction, each time you scan a barcode, the picked or received quantity will increase.


Scanning Serial or Lot Numbers

If you want to add serial or lot numbers for an item within a transaction, click the drop-down arrow to the left of the item line to open the Serial/Lot Number menu.
Click the Scan Serial/Lot field to place your cursor there, then scan the serial or lot number barcodes.

Scanning Barcodes in the Android App


 Bluetooth Scanner

You can use a wireless Bluetooth barcode scanner with your mobile device for barcode scanning inside the HandiFox app.

The scanner must first be paired with the mobile device (per the scanner’s manual). Once the scanner is paired, open HandiFox app and go to Admin → Settings → Select Scanner. Tap Scan Bluetooth and wait for the search to complete, then select your scanner from the list.

You can also enter scanner’s Bluetooth address manually in case automatic discovery fails (this address can be viewed in the Bluetooth section of Android settings, in the properties of the paired scanner).

 If the scanner will not pull items up but type the barcode in any field on the mobile application instead, it means the keyboard mode or output needs to be disabled
 Only scanners capable of SPP mode will work with HandiFox as advertised. Check the System Requirements for recommended models.

 Built-in Camera

This method is the simplest but the least performant of all, so if you plan on scanning a lot of barcodes regularly, we recommend that you consider other methods described below.

To scan a barcode with your device’s camera, simply tap the Scan button in the mobile app. This button will appear on all screens where barcode scanning is applicable. 

 If a different scanning method is used, the Scan button becomes unnecessary and can be disabled in Admin → Settings → Select Scanner to avoid confusion.

 Built-in Scanner

HandiFox supports certain devices with built-in laser scanners, namely, select Motorola (with DataWedge support), Intermec and Sunmi models. On Motorola devices, additional configuring is required to start using the scanner in HandiFox. Please contact us for details.

Scanning Barcodes in the iOS App


 Scanning with Camera

To scan a barcode with your device’s camera, simply tap Scan   in the mobile app. This button will appear on all screens where barcode scanning is applicable. 

 Bluetooth Scanner

HandiFox Online works with MFI-certified barcode scanners. However, some scanners don’t connect to the app as seamlessly as others. Please contact us for details.
